I am devastasted to hear that the beautiful promenade where my husband and I walk every evening may soon be developed into a SHOPPING MALL!
JAmes FisherSigned on: Wed 09 Apr 2008 09:40:02 UTC
This is the only piece of non comercialized public space in the Cape town Central area. Lets keep it this way, as Capetonians we should exercise our rights to keep this place open to the public

Beautiful seafront must be saved ,we do not need another mall and hotel in the area

I grew up in Sea Point and the pavilion was a wonderful playground for kids -- reserved then for so-called "whites" of course. I have recently been visiting the beach front / pavilion area two or three times a week and find it marvellous that all the people of this country are now using this facility. Strange that the City and Provincial politicians wish to revert to a colour-based use of these facilities. Are we really a country where the colour of your money is all that counts?
Come on Mayor Zille show us what you are made of!

What possible reason could there be for a shopping center on the sea shore? Why would anyone prefer to see another building instead of a sea view? The sea shore should belong to the public for all to enjoy the natural beauty. If we want to shop, there is plenty of space to go already, and also inland space to build if necessary.

I value the Sea Point promenade, in fact the whole Atlantic coast from Granger Bay to Cape Point, as an asset both for my own restoration and an attraction which can help bring visitors, and employment, to the Cape.

I enjoyed many happy hours on the Promenade. It needs to be treasured as a resource for all the citizens of Cape town not just the developers & their cronies.

As a child I adored going to the Pavillion and as a mother of three, I am the best mom in the world when I take my kids. Don't take it away from the young and old alike!

No development other than improving the existing public spaces at the sea point boulevard should be allowed at all! The public space should be defended at all cost

My hope is that this will expose any underhanded dealings that have taken place and serve as a warning that elected officials are accountable to their electorate.

Their are plenty of other opportunities for development and commerce. The public areas along the sea front should not only ALL be kept as public areas but their maintenance/ security should improve to keep/ turn them in a world-class attraction (especially as the City of Cape Town is always on the bandwagon about how fantastic Cape Town is). Put your money where your mouths are!

Sea Point pavillion and promenade should not be developed, it is a part of our heritage, I don't think there is anyone in CPT who does not go there for walks or with their kids. Lets keep a bit of CPT unspoilt.

Don't let Sea Point go the way of every other prime seafront property in the world!
Patricia F FineSigned on: Mon 07 Apr 2008 23:15:04 UTC
Seafronts are sacred space for residents and visitors to our beautiful city. They should be respected and treated with the utmost sensitivity. Few places in the world boast a coastline like the Peninsula but many have overbuilt ruined coastlines that are there for posterity.
