to live in ct- one of the worlds most beautiful cities - is to enjoy the wonderful natural beauty of the outdoors. the promenade allows for this and to remove it would be a tragedy for cape town residents and tourists!!!

Totally against any developement....there are few enough open places for people to enjoy these day's...leave Sea Point alone!

As an ex Capetownian, I can think of nothing worse than what is being planned. This area MUST be kept to be enjoyed by ALL. (member of the Cape Vernacular Architectural Soc.

    Are they Crazy!!!
I fully object to this insane idea of wanting to build a hotel, not even a shelter like someone mentioned. This is such a beautiful place to go and relax, exercise and just enjoy the beautiful scenery. What are these people doing to our Cape Town.
Janet ChadwickSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 17:12:46 UTC
Both Main Road and Beach Road are suffering major congestion - how do the developers propose to alleviate this? It would require further development - ruining even more of the beautiful scape. Further, residents (and people from the surrounding areas currently have only one relatively safe space to enjoy the lifestyle that Sea Point was famed for in its glory days. It would not be in the interests of the residents or anyone able to enjoy this area to create a private property of this currently public area.

The promenade is Sea Point's identity, take it away and the's nothing left to come back to or long for.
The promenade is what makes Sea Point special.
Sandra MallinsonSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 14:40:37 UTC
I no longer feel safe walking on the mountain alone – luckily there’s still the promenade. Fantastic views, a fresh sea breeze, some exceptional people watching & a perpetual holiday vibe … to replace that with yet another soulless shopping mall would be a serious loss to Cape Town’s unique charm.
Caroline PowellSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 14:22:44 UTC
I agree that Sea Point Promenade is a hugely special place for it's diversity. It's one of the few places that makes me feel proud to call myself a Capetonian. It's also one of the safest places for a woman to get exercise on her own.

Why would they even CONSIDER doing this? These people are becoming too money hungry at the expense of others...

The less interaction with people of all races and religions, the more cold hearted and misunderstanding we become of our fellow man. Taking away such a perfect location in which to do this would be to deny our humanity.

The Promenade is a beautiful area that money cannot buy. It should be left as a public area that we all can enjoy. I enjoy running there and will be devastated by a hotel being built in it's place. PLEASE CONSIDER THE GREATER GOOD OF ALL CAPETONIANS AND DO NOT CONSTRUCT OR CHANGE THE PROMENADE??

the promenade is my favourite place to go for a good long run after work without dodging traffic while still feeling very safe.
Catherine GiddySigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 12:16:35 UTC
I walk along the Promenade at least twice a week and I certainly do not want any mall or hotel to block this area where I find such peace at the end of a long day at work!

Please don't spoil what little is left of Cape Town's beauty that from the rich to the poor can enjoy.
Jenny PohlSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 12:11:40 UTC
I visit this area at least twice a week because of the beautiful & safe location it offers for exercising and relaxing. Any development along this stretch would put me off coming to Sea Point and would effect the lifestyles of many others too!

Focus should be in providing a safe public environment 24hrs a day. Public right of way and sea views should NOT be obstructed.

a country suffering from radical economic and racial divides should surely strive to move AWAY from exclusivity rather than towards it. rather set up a night shelter than an exclusive hotel.

Please don't develop a natural place that is used by people across a diverse culture and income bracket. It's unique and deserves to remain.
Jessica BarkerSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 11:58:58 UTC
Don't take away our only safe place for jogging, walking, people watching and lapping up Cape Town culture. Short sightedness will kill the tourism industry!

Lived in Sea Point, over the road from the pool and the area of the proposed development.
Will return to Sea Point again. Having the area developed will completely take away the charm and attraction to the relaxed atmosphere that there is there right now. I am all for development, however not when it comes to straight forward "ruin" like this!!!
    Come on now.....be realistic!!

The Sea Point promenade is an icon of Cape Town, it avails itself to all ages, races and economic classes to enjoy its beauty freely.

If this were removed, it would be like ripping out a lung from the body of Cape Town.

Do not take away the sea point promenade from the people of cape town!

I am a regular visitor to Cape Town and greatly value the open land and amenities at Seapoint. It would be a great sin to rob the people of Cape Town of this unique facility.

Why take away/restrict/spoil a National gem, a place which is demonstrably loved by Cape Towners and, more importantly, USED by them IN SAFETY?
Ryan TorresSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 09:56:07 UTC
I use that area a lot after work to relax and jog, once thats gone there will be no where to do that, except for more of the same looking apartments for an already congested city
Lorna MclarenSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 09:54:19 UTC
It will be a very sad day that development takes over the places that make Cape Town what it is. Just as Table Mountain is protected, so should the Promenade be protected.
