We need more parks, trees, open spaces than what we have at the moment. Let us at least try and preserve the little that is left. No more buildings in this area. There is life after 2010!!
Bev VernonSigned on: Mon 18 Feb 2008 04:21:36 UTC
    Save the promenade!!

Please - we don't want to lose this public space and we don't want tall buildings anywhere on the promenade.
Robynne ShortSigned on: Sun 17 Feb 2008 19:59:35 UTC
It would be a disgrace to allow this.

our sea view will be substantially reduced.
service deliveries and garbage removal are very worrying taking into account the small area of the site.screening will be extremely difficult.traffic exiting the hotel site will do so onto a bend in the road where traffic is approaching at speed, consequently almost certainly increasing the
likelihood of accidents in this location.

The beauty of the Sea Point Pavillion and Walkway are a non negotiable inheritance for the future benefit of all South Africans, where people relax and intermingle in a relaxed atmosphere.
Chris FaureSigned on: Sun 17 Feb 2008 07:20:50 UTC
The promenade belongs to the citizens of the greater Cape Town and should remain so. There is enough development going on in and around the city to satisfy the greed of developers and politicians. Leave Sea Point alone!!
Lisa kaminerSigned on: Sat 16 Feb 2008 21:46:49 UTC
Please leave the natural beauty of Cape Town alone. We do not want another building but rather want to enjoy the open spaces we have left!
RICHARD HOOKSigned on: Sat 16 Feb 2008 12:21:33 UTC
The promenade belongs to the people of Cape Town as an open space and the council is not at liberty to dispose of it for some short term political gain.
Arjen HarmSigned on: Sat 16 Feb 2008 11:55:09 UTC
If this proposal for development is a real one, then it really must be censured. This is naked greed at work, i.t.o. which anything must be turned into profit. While trying to to create a world (unfortunately sometimes purely out of malls and shopping centres) we easily forget that somehow we need to live in this world. The folks who will be making this profit probably do not live in the area, nor ever use the area.

    A pox on them.

I like it the way it is and would not like to see this become private property with restricted access

    Keep the open beautiful space,pls.!
Jenni LemmonSigned on: Sat 16 Feb 2008 08:43:02 UTC
The pavillion belongs to everyone of Cape Town, including overseas guests. I have a guest house in Kenilworth and my guests used the pavillion every day during their recurring visits to Cape Town
Nicola OakleySigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 23:18:00 UTC
Developing the Promenade from a PUBLIC space into a PRIVATE space would be an absolute tragedy for the people of Cape Town. I hope in the future my children will be able to enjoy the Promenade, Pavillion and pools as much as I do on a daily basis.

Development of the PUBLIC SPACE into a PRIVATE SPACE would be an absolute tragedy for the City of Cape Town. I hope my children will be able to enjoy the Promenade, Pavillion and pools as I did when I was a child, and continue to do so on a daily basis as an adult!!!

There is no reason to make something beautiful into something ugly...slowly the whole of cape town will become ugly if ppl keep doing stuff like this - please make those buildings somewhere else!
Karen CochloviusSigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 16:23:52 UTC
Please keep this public space open for the public; for the use and health of the community
Nicola RaysmanSigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 16:00:42 UTC
Development plans for the Promenade must be stopped. It is public property and it would be a massive violation to sell it off for more, uneccessary consumerism. The promenade strip is a beautiful attraction and it does not need to be defaced for the sake of another already, wealthy bussinesman's gain. Leave the promenade as it is!
Shaheem RhyneveldSigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 15:48:03 UTC
It would be a tragedy to have the proposed site ruined for material capatalist value. We need to preserve what little beauty we still have so that generations after us can enjoy it as much as we do.

By the mere fact that I am signing this petition shows my complete support of blocking any development of our beautiful promenade. Who ever these money-blinded developers are, are they out of their minds?
Michelle BarrowSigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 14:40:38 UTC
Two words come to mind: Selfish and Inconsiderate. Who do these developers think they are! Good going Seafa - It's time somebody stood up to these Greedy Goblins.

Its an amazing space that myself and my friends use regularly for relaxation and enjoyment. It would change the way cape town and specifically sea point functions in that area. Please dont develop.

I run along the promenade on a weekly basis. It's one of the few places I feel totally safe to do so. Being their is the best way for me to start/end a day. It's also a wonderful way to silently engage with the people of Cape Town. We may never speak but we exchange smiles and have the promenade in common.

Don't take something so special away. Please.
GlennSigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 13:27:12 UTC
I object strongly to this proposed development.
    O. QUINTARDSigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 12:33:02 UTC
The Sea Point Promenade is virtually the only open space on the Atlantic SeaBoard where one can enjoy free time, either on the grass, walking along the Sea, sitting watching the sunset, alone or with family and friends.
Planning to build hotel/shopping complex or whatever in this area is totally inconsiderate.
Besides, there are enough businesses, hotels on the Main Road. There is no need for more.
I really do not think it is a viable proposition and I strongly object to it.

Stop the desecration of our cities. Leave things the way they are and stop building bigger.
Carie MaasSigned on: Fri 15 Feb 2008 09:46:46 UTC
Please, there are malls galore all over the Peninsula. Please let the people of Cape Town keep this space. I use it regularly and shops will deface the promenade which is used by hundreds of people every day.
