I work in Green Point and walk on the promenade every week day after work. I am appalled that this is even a remote possibility and strongly disapproved and voice my objections. Just another example of unscrupulous politicians and developers lining their already bulging pockets.

I have been going to the Promenade since I can remember and woul like to see my children and grandchildren go there as well because it holds fond memories for my family. It wouldn't be nice at all to take the view away from Sea Point at all either.

It would be a shame to spoil such a magnificent view and take away much needed family relaxation and fun

This area is for everyone's use and not just for the rich developers. Part of Cape Town's unique character.

I love the Sea Point Promenade. Please don't destroy our open space. Please stop the building plans.

I am totally opposed to the development. I grew up in Sea Point and moved back here 8 years ago. It is clear that the open space is enjoyed by people from all over Cape Town.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to organise this petition. I stronly agree with what you are doing. It would be a terrible shame to build a great monstrous building and block the view of others. I quite agree to keep the pool and walkway as it is. It would also change our coastline which is already affected by the numerous buildings going up.

Some developments are good and improve the life and well-being of a community and an area.
Other developments detract from these vital elements of community well-being.
I believe that the proposed developments at Sea Point will do the latter, and urge that they be disallowed.
Dawn WebsterSigned on: Fri 08 Feb 2008 17:49:05 UTC
I lived in Sea Point as a child and my family used the baths frequently, as well as walking along the promenade, riding on the Blue Train and enjoying the glorious natural environment. This plan would be a disaster.

the fat cats are fat enough already. not everything in life should yield a MONETARY return.
Professor Paul SulcaSigned on: Fri 08 Feb 2008 11:41:25 UTC
We must stop this proposed nonsense. It is essential for these public open spaces to remain as such and not becoming 'just another' unwanted/unneeded property development impacting on our precious environment. There are lots of other sites for development.

Phillip RobinsonSigned on: Thu 07 Feb 2008 17:49:47 UTC
Keep public space open! This is the only place where one can take a walk & get some fresh air walking distance from your place of residence and get away from the buzzy city life.
Cheryl KiderlenSigned on: Thu 07 Feb 2008 17:33:40 UTC
Allowing any development there, or anywhere along the seafront will destroy even more of our childrens heritage ! NO !

Big cities need open recreational areas as in all major cities London, Melbourne even the older cities such as Rome etc. We do not need a cemented city like Hong Kong
P van HeldenSigned on: Thu 07 Feb 2008 11:55:04 UTC
WE have already ruined Cape Town w r t occupying too much open space. THis will detract eventually from the attraction of Cape Town as a beautiful and spacious city, leading to a long-term decline in tourism, with loss of benefit to all.
Conway TerenceSigned on: Thu 07 Feb 2008 11:03:34 UTC
Leave this area as it is, there is plenty land to build on else where. Why here where one can enjoy the beaches and fresh air.
Deirdre ConwaySigned on: Thu 07 Feb 2008 11:00:11 UTC
I was brought up in Sea Point and used the pool every day for 3 hours twice a day for training.Where are sports people meant to train and why are all the places where one can enjoy themselves with there families been taken away for buildings. At the moment we have not got enough electricity for everyone and now they want to build more flats/hotels/etc. Where are these peoples minds. Leave this beachfront alone and let people enjoy the outdoors as it's meant to be. God gave usfresh air to enjoy not to be bogged in for some rich person to get richer at other peoples expense.
Anne WrightSigned on: Thu 07 Feb 2008 10:58:32 UTC
I make weekly use of the seafront walkway and I know that many tourists do too. It would spoil the free space that so many people benefit from, locals and tourists

As an ex resident from Three Anchor Bay I feel this would be a sever loss to The Mother City and to all the South African people who have had an enjoyed their time on the seafront

    Sea Point beachfront:
I know of only one other like it in the world - Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
Please don't let that be the only one.

Thank you for the efforts you are making to save this wonderful part of Cape Town.
Sanchia StottSigned on: Wed 06 Feb 2008 11:02:54 UTC
We absolutely have to keep the Seafront free from big new developments. I am in favour of developments that upgrade an area however, I feel that the proposed development infringes on the existing buildings and will lead the way for further developments on the promenade which should be kept as a recreational area. The city should not lose sight of the value of this recreational area!!!!! Lose that and you may start losing residents to other cities!
