The seafront area is an amenity accessible to all in cape town, and as such it is well used throughout the year - by those who live nearby, by office workers who are keen to have a walk after work, and by anyone else from the many other parts of the city. It is not clear that this character of will be protected and allowed to flourish in the face of a large-scale and probably exclusive development along the seafront.
    K ReaderSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 18:00:33 UTC
Building on the seafront should not be allowed and I feel the plans for this project were not thought through before they were rubber stamped

Location and space is a very prosurvival thing for people to experience. We need to ensure that this is not effected by putting physical universe obstacles in the way. This effects reach and havingness and ultimately spiritual abundance.

I use the pool on almost a daily basis. It\'s a unique facility in a unique urban-marine setting, intimately linked to the ocean. And most significantly it is a space for all. It needs to be preserved, not \"developed\" by unsympathetic money grubbers.
As I stay in the CBD, the pavilion walkway is our \"greenbelt\". Again, it needs to be protected by law.
Kuby HendricksSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 16:16:49 UTC
The area is too beautiful for more buildings.

It is time for us to all take a stand against greedy developers who only want to make a quick buck and the city council needs to realise that the ratepayers pay their salaries.
Dirk VersfeldSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 15:23:28 UTC
I am a regular user of the SEA POINT POOL and promenade. This is absolutely vital public space - and a treasure especially for those visiting from the townships.

Totally unacceptable - not everything is about making money!!! Tasneem Essop should be shot - she has made some of the most damaging decisions based on lining her own pockets!

The development of the Promenade is unacceptable. It is a magnificent asset for Cape Town and provides many Capetonians with much needed relaxation.
I will fully support the fight against its development.

Let\'s preserve the heritage that we have in the natural beauty of Cape Town. Commercial enterprise MUST come second to this ideal.

No development should be allowed on the beach side of main road at all. This is public open space and Government and the City are only custodians of this space on behalf of the public. Setting a precedent for development of this nature opens the door for broad scale development throughout the City area. It should not be approvable without at least a city wide referendum.
William SegalSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 13:00:28 UTC
One wonders what happened regarding the \"deed issue\"....this title deed(if memory serves) was \"lost\"...it strictly forbad development on the beach side....track down the person who \"lost\" it methinks...accountability before profitability.
Keep up the good work SEAFA
P.S.I have some lovely pictures taken on reconciliation day of folk from all walks of life enjoying the day....if these souless developers are allowed to succeed people will no longer have a democratic right to the beauty of this area(not to mention the encumbrance upon residents).....These pictures are SEAFA\'S if required.
Dr. Ed WethliSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 12:49:01 UTC
I have resided in Cape Town for many years and still visit frequently. I think even the thought of such a development is iniquitous! [I hope my e-mail address is NOT viewable.]
Tristan KilianSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 12:44:04 UTC
We use the promenade often, to walk the dogs, view the waves and generally recreate. To think that a shopping centre will be built next to the Pavilion is terrible. That area should be public space and not a commercial mall. Imagine the parking nightmare. No, it is beyond idiotic to build something there. Next thing there\'ll be a pier out into the ocean like Durban. Horrible.

SAVE the promenade for all people not just the rich, as my 9 year old son said: If you dig up my pprmenade, you will have to dig me up with it.

I get many visitors from overseas and a walk along Seapoint promenade is a real treat for them - although it is a pity that the area is no longer maintained to the standard it once was.
simone lansdowneSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 11:36:59 UTC
Every morning and evening people from all over Cape Town enjoy walking and playing along the promenade because of the view and the sea air, but mostly because it is a safe environment in which to do so. There are not many places you can do this and it would be a huge shame to take it away.
chris mccarthySigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 11:29:38 UTC
One of the few places left in central Cape Town, where people can get out doors and relax!!!
LEAVE THE AREA TO THE PEOPLE OF CAPE TOWN!!!
YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TAKE THIS LAND FROM US!!!
LindaSigned on: Wed 04 Mar 2009 11:22:24 UTC
It would be an absolute travisty to erect a mall on our beautiful promenande.
