This is a disgrace..... this was one of the first public places I made a point of taking my children to at a young age so they could appreciate the beauty etc. Why must everything be taken away? Leave it alone!

I have been going there for years and is a tourist attraction. This must be stopped and i am 100% behind all objecting

NO WAY, THAT AREA IS PART OF OUR HERITAGE, WE ALL WENT THERE WHEN WE WERE LITTLE ONES AND STILL DO.

Having livefd in Seapoint for 5 years I came to know the value of this wonderful resource for the people of Cape Town, and for our foreign tourists. It should remain as it is

This idea is completely unacceptable and I oppose the idea, as public open space is for the benefit of all, not just one sector of society!
pat TruyensSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 14:03:01 UTC
I don't think building should be allowed on the Sea Point sea front
Barbara HowellSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 14:01:57 UTC
There are not enough Public open spaces and it would be such a pity to lose one right on the beach at Seapoint. This does not get my vote! Open up more spaces for the public to enjoy.

This is a special place and is indeed used by Cape Tonians and people from far and wide. It is a public space for recreation and should NEVER be privatised - that would be a travesty of justice.
Kim BougaardtSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 13:54:45 UTC
Don't take away our rights to fresh air, exercise, beautiful views, place to relax and be - for money hungry developers who already have too much cash to start off with!
Who needs another mall? If we wanted one, there's the one in Sea Point mainroad. And did they not just extend the Waterfront? Public Open Spaces, it's a GREAT thing. Let it not become a concept...

Being a Cape Townian 'originally" i appreciate the beauty of the Mother City when i visit her. For 28 years i resided in Cape town and took the beauty for granted or could see it because it was there all the time, now that i reside in Johannesburg, my most forward looking holiday is my yearly trip to the Mother City...please dont distroy the beauty!!!
    Jenny O'HanlonSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 13:54:37 UTC
I use the Seapoint promenade and swimming pool extensively in the early mornings. I am always amazed by the number of people that use this area for recreational purpose such as excercising, walking dogs, reading and just enjoying the space. To take this away from such a densely populated area is insensitive and would spoil the entire Seapoint area. Must be stopped.

They tore down Club I-land, quite rightly. And it wasn't so bad with Wimpy's, but its better now without anything there. I know the area well. It's not worth it.
Richard CurrieSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 13:48:26 UTC
This would be like building on Table Mountain!!! We must maintain some nature in life for all walks of life to exist in otherwise we may as well all move to Jozi!!!

Public Open Space is a precious heritage asset and it should be preserved for the benefit of all members of the public in perpetuity. This is particularly true for the POS in such a special location alongside the Sea Point Pavilion. No rezoning should be allowed unless it is unarguably in the interest of the general public and it receives support from a clear majority of the public.

Why take away something that's making such a lot of people happy....we need tranquility in this day and age....that can't be it...there's lots of open pieces of land you can go and develop on.

We have to maintain the open spaces of our beautiful city! Not only do they contribute towards tourism, but also play an important role in creating a healthy city.

ex Capetonian - a definite NO - i love to picnic there and in the evenings it's a quick drive to go to relax and unwind.
    Simone Esau-BaileySigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 13:18:47 UTC
I love walking on the promenade, breathing in the fresh ocean breeze and catching some sun! It would be such a waste to replace all of this with buildings, why? For financial gain?
What about all the people who love exercising, picnicing and swimming there!
    Definitely shouldn't happen!
Marc DescroizillesSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 13:12:08 UTC
I certainly object to private development of the promenade! It must remain public

I strongly object to this rezoning of the Promenade and especially around the Pavilion area - this will destroy Cape Town's beauty and especially along the Sea Point Promenade. The Pavilion is an icon of Sea Point which is enjoyed by locals and national/international visitors alike. PLEASE STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING!!!
Sarah BrownSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 12:40:22 UTC
The Seapoint pavilion is a special place for all Capetonians, and provides the quickest access to amazing sea views when you're living and working in the city. Such developments should not be allowed, and more awareness should be brought about this issue (media, etc.)
Stanton WilliamsSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 12:37:55 UTC
Rezone the crime and drug use. How can any development not affect the community or the people living there? Also, we do not have electricity to power these developments. Leave Seapoint the way it is and the way people love it.
Lisa PedersonSigned on: Mon 28 Jan 2008 12:36:44 UTC
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Seapoint! It was my first "home" in Cape Town and remains very close to my heart. One of the very best things to do on a Sunday afternoon (or better yet, in the late afternoon after work, just before sunset) is to go for a walk down the Seapoint promenade, appreciating the beauty of God's Creation, in this, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

When will the slaughter of what is beautiful in our country stop??
