There are so few public areas left that are free of charge I would hate to loose yet another one. I recently visited Brisbane and the Gold Coast where the beautiful beach surround has been totally spoilt by closely packed highrise buildings, please don't do that to Sea Point!

We cannot let greedy developers and incompetent officials deny the people of an important PUBLIC space and facility. This area is of priceless value to us and all future generations to come.

the social barriers formed by the privatisation of public space affects not only the social quality of urban dwelling but also diminishes the quality of the built environment in general. the seafront should remain public domain.

i swim in the sea point pool every week
it is a civic amenity for the people of cape town, we demand that it be maintained as a public space of incredible beauty & priceless worth. It is of utmost importance that this public space remain as it is, it re--charges our humanity to swim together in urban public pools, it keeps our humanity open. Any shopping centre of development related to commodity shopping & business is to be resisted without compromise

Rezone and develop the open space of the Sea Point promenade?? This is surely a new definition of insanity

Sustaining the urban fabric means conserving what is important. The promenade is definately such an asset and should not be developed more densely.
Marguerite CarreiraSigned on: Thu 24 Jan 2008 12:13:18 UTC
This would despoil the entire nature of the area.
LesSigned on: Thu 24 Jan 2008 12:12:06 UTC
All Capetonians should have access to the beachfront - not just the few who can afford the rent.
Allison PalmerSigned on: Thu 24 Jan 2008 12:10:36 UTC
definately no big buildings - we have enough shops in Cape Town - perhaps something small with charm, keeping the existing promenade

Too many of the most beautiful spaces are being taken up by people who have money!!!
Cape Town and its attractions should be shared by all.

This is an important recreation area for me and my family and friends - it is also a safe open space for experiencing and enjoying the great diversity of Cape Town - it is a spatial opportunity that is very rare in the City (the Company Gardens are another such locus) where we build our larger community. Leave it alone!
Janine LaderachSigned on: Thu 24 Jan 2008 11:56:21 UTC
Don't let them destroy Sea Point.
Linde ErasmusSigned on: Thu 24 Jan 2008 11:55:36 UTC
What can I say, space does something to your spirit. The promenade is a space of relaxation and refreshment, it's where lots of sport activities takes place, it's for families and friends to have picnics, for reading or walking and viewing the amazing seaside views. There is only so much space on this little island of our mother city, lets utilise it wisely and keep the balance.

ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS TO EVEN CONSIDER ANY DEVELOPMENT ON THE BEACH FRONT. IT IS CLUTTERED ENOUGH. ANOTHER UNDER THE TABLE DEAL TO ENRICH CERTAIN PERSONS AND GROUPS.!!?

We must fight against public open spaces for commercial development that will only benefit a few. We must ensure that we have public spaces for all to congregate and enjoy.

i love the promenade in both a personal and business capacity. i use the pool, i love the view, i love to sit and admire the ocean, i love the fact that we have this extraordinary place for family friends and colleagues. to develop this for a purely monetary gain is selfish and the negative effects will be many and varied , felt for many years to come.

I grew up in CT & love the city and would be devastated to see this development happen. Isnt there enough Commercial property available without ruining the landscape?
