    Public spaces for the public.
larah meyerSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:55:15 UTC
I think there is enough developing going on, and enough space allocated for this purpose. The seapoint promenade is a place for all to enjoy on a daily basis. Building there will simply cause traffic jams, interrupt the lives of the local inhabitants, and might even cause extra damage to the environment.
Karen NikiforosSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:51:38 UTC
we have used that beach area for walking, surfing, picnic's for the last 20 years, I want my kids to enjoy the parks and beaches. There are enough malls... go build one inland where there is no ocean eco-system to mess up.
Jane MeyerSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:36:26 UTC
Please keep our Public Open Space as public open space. With all the development taking place in our city we really do need to preserve what little greenery we have. Every city needs public open space for inhabitants to be able to go to to relax, get fresh air and exercise.
Edith ViljoenSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:36:00 UTC
I like going jogging at the Sea Point Prom, and there are so many others like me who live in town and have no gardens and would never get outside if we didn't have somewhere like the Sea Point seafront. People from all over use this space, please don't take it away!
AshleaSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:32:31 UTC
NO WAY! Hands off public land!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Keep our Open Spaces
Aimee HoppeSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:29:34 UTC
Please don't take the promenade away from us, my sister and I drive there to jog there on the weekends.
Kimi FordredSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:26:43 UTC
As a South African, I believe it is our heritage / public space which needs to be preserved and far outweights the need to erect another "Babylonian Empire". Sadly these commercial and residential developments are only for the benefit of greedy investors and benefit only foreigners and tourism, with the focus on money. Stop exploiting our "Mother City" ..... we love her (Gaia) and all she represents and keep your filty hands off our beautiful country.
Amanda GroenewaldSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:26:38 UTC
Please keep the little unspoiled land that we have left UNSPOILED!!
ROSY EDWARDSSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:25:44 UTC
I totally agree that there should be NO development on public space in or around the Sea Point pavillion area
I de BeerSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:22:31 UTC
Another example of an irresponsible and shortsighted decision. Leave this area for the recreation of rate payers and tourists.
Caroline MooreSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:13:33 UTC
the Sea Point promenade should be preserved as it provides a much needed recreational space in Cape Town for all strata of society. All the people of CT are entitled to the healthy beautiful and social benefits of the Promenade. We don't need any more multistorey developments spoiling the beachfront.
Raune JonathanSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:12:51 UTC
I use to walk along there when i was a kid, and i still love it! I want my children to walk along the prom too. The prom should stay a public recreational area as it always was...

DO NOT BUILD ON THE PROMENADE!
Alysha BuckleSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:09:36 UTC
    I think this is bollocks!
Next we'll be building hotels on T mountain...
adam masonSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:06:45 UTC
The promenade is open to all members of the community and to develop this would besmirch a treasured stretch of our beautiful city coastline for the benefit of a few well connected property developers.
Trish UrquhartSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 13:06:13 UTC
No more shopping centres are needed. We need to keep public spaces public.

    it has sentimental value
minette williamsSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:57:36 UTC
It is a damn shame - when are they going to stop taking away all the great public spaces?????
Monique PelserSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:57:12 UTC
It is a rediculous idea to develop the promenade. That space is used by the public and should be kept as an open public space.
Mark UrrySigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:52:26 UTC
Please stop being Capitalist idiots. The development of that area will create jobs but the majority of the profit will go to the few. Cape Town and this country doesn't need yet another step in the wrong direction. If this area is to be developed, lets see a sustainable business model that far outweighs the negative impact of using this space.
Mari KotzeSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:51:57 UTC
    Viva undevelopment!
Jane NottenSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:50:34 UTC
We don't need another mall we need safe public open spaces - the sea point promenade is one place where you can walk alone OUTSIDE and enjoy the natural beauty of cape town at any time of day or night without fearing for your safety. My international friends rave about this strip of public space as well - so it is also a tourist attraction. If this goes through it will be a massive blunder for the city - and ruin a perfectly good working public space. Please don't let greedy developers always get their own way!!!!!

SamSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:46:53 UTC
What a sad day it will be when somebody chooses to exploit the land for profit above the wellbeing and happiness of the residents of Seapoint and surrounds (often seen jogging, relaxing or waking htere after a hard days' work). Many of whom live in tiny flats and don't have the luxury of a garden. Please do not rezone this area.

The promenade at Sea Point is one of the Cape's greater glories. Any thought of "development" is absurd
Ibrahim CoopersamySigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:19:31 UTC
I have 2 sisters, a brother & 8 cousins in CT. Every year my wife & plan our vac around CT, and the Seapoint is a definite destination every year. Please note the Bible's warning in Luke (16:13): “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and riches.” The decision is yours, but remember there are bound to be consequences & my pray to the money hungary consorts is that my God have mercy on your soul. taking away the seafront and promenade will not only ruin the vibe and atmosphere of sea point but of cape town as a whole. how many city's are there where you can go to the promenade over lunch and walk along the beautiful area?
Nadia SadiqSigned on: Wed 23 Jan 2008 12:17:47 UTC
Please don't ruin the promenade. It is such a lively place any time of day or year. It symbolises Cape Town.
