The Sea Point Promenade is a landmark of Cape Town. There is enough commercial development in the area, such as the main road of Sea Point, and the Waterfront!
Jo GloverSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 15:03:31 UTC
most summer evenings are spent walking along the promenade, it's such a beautiful way to enjoy our climate, and look forward to after a day in an office, we need space with fresh sea air to combat city living blues, not more money vacume spaces that encourage consumerism and increase people's carbon footprint. come now, moving backwards.

Do not destroy our promenade for the sake of greed. It's a disgrace that it's even being considered. We will not let that happen.

The planned building will cut off easy pedestrian access to the clifton side, when walking along the length of the promenade. In the same way the highway cut off the city's link to the harbour, this will cut off pedestrian flow.

i object strongly to this anticipated development as an ex Sea Point resident of 27 years
SantiSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 14:29:20 UTC
We like it the way it is. At least twice a week we go for walks and bike rides with my 5 year old... leave it the way it is.

i am certainly not in favour of the development of the seapoint promenade !!!
Anna Davies-van EsSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 14:15:47 UTC
we should be increasing our public spaces not decreasing them!

when public spaces are rezoned they should be zoned for low cost housing not private development. government needs to check priorities!!!
Sandra HustwickSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 14:10:59 UTC
The role of local government and DEADP is to act as custodians of the environment for the benefit of the Citizens of Cape Town and the broader community, and not to permit short-term profiteering of commercial interests at the expense of our natural heritage and recreational amenities. If government accountability to the needs of the community and the City's own policy of protecting Public Open Space and the Metropolitan Open Space System prevails, this will result in a decision in the public's interest rather than favouring financial interests of a developer over public sentiment.

I love to go and stroll along Seapoint. It is a beautiful open space loved by many. We do not need more shopping centres taking away the fabulous views and promenade that should be enjoyed by all. The additional congestion on the streets would also be a nightmare.
Natalie RademeyerSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 14:03:33 UTC
We need to preserve our open spaces for recreational and conservation purposes. That is why Cape Town is South Africa's mother city after all.
A friend of mine helped with the conservation of dunes in Big Bay & Melkbosstrand a couple of years ago. When we drove past there a week ago, she was shocked to see that the area has now been developed right up to the beach and that the dunes have been destroyd. It has to stop somewhere, or we will not have a coast line left!

I regularly travel to Sea Point to enjoy the walk along the beach front - would be devastated if anything was "developed" on the sea side of Beach Road!!!

I grew up in Camps Bay and all my friends live in and around the atlantic seaboard and I use it regulary and would like my daughter to remember it when she is older. It would be a huge shame to lose this beautiful space to yet more shopping space!!!

Ai tog, kan die mens nie maar net die omgewing los vir wat dit is nie. Vat jou geld en gaan bou iewers anders. Seblief!!!

Man, can people not leave the environment as it is. Take your money and go build somewhere else. Please!!!

PLEASE!! We don't need ANOTHER mall. The promenade is stunning as it is, please just leave it alone!!
Jacqui BSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 12:58:08 UTC
I think it's shocking that they would even consider turning the promenade into yet another golden mile money spinner. Enough developments have shot up to deface our beautiful Atlantic seaboard. Rather spend a bit of money in sprucing the promenade up. I would be happy to donate to such a worthy cause.

I regularly make use of this area to walk/jog and consider it one of the nicer spots in Cape Town to just relax, watch the sun set or exercise in a safer nature based environment. Would be devastated to lose it.

marthina jacobsSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 12:48:13 UTC
There is almost no area's were one can savely walk in cape town and no you want to take that place away form us so that you can build more. I don't agree. It is wrong.
Michelle PerrySigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 12:45:42 UTC
I spent 25 years in Cape Town and some of my best moments were going for long walks along the promenade. I think that it is an absolute travesty that they would take this away from Capetownians. Stop the madness!
AnnariSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 12:43:26 UTC
This is a public space where people go to for various reasons. Please don't desecrate by puttin more shopping malls or any other building for that matter.

Losing the Promenade will change the look of Cape Town and remove beautiful open public places used for Jogging, leisure and enjoyment of the beautiful surroundings.
Amelia DieperinkSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 12:33:54 UTC
    Keep it for the public!
Ingrid FearnsSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 12:32:57 UTC
This is a totally ridiculous idea - the Sea Point beach front should be available to all the cititzens of Cape town for whatever they choose. It is such a scenic tourist attraction and to think they will give this benefit to an elite few is almost unbelievable. I am sure that would not happen else where in the world

I live in the Gardens, but own in Sea Point. It would be a disgrace to allow commercial development along the Sea Point beachfront - leave it for all to enjoy!
Claire WebsterSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 12:24:51 UTC
I use this space regularly and would be disgusted if it were waisted on hotels and shoping centers.
