This is the one place that every Capetonian can enjoy.
Greediness is what will destroy Cape Towns beauty. This area adds to the charm of CT and has been here for many years, its a part of CT history

What a shame that the lowest of the low, property developers, are trying to do what they do best....destroy neighborhoods, take the money, and walk away. We have to do all we can to stop them!
TuxSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 08:03:13 UTC
    Leave it alone, or else.
    G FlooterSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 08:01:09 UTC
Save the Sea Point promenade, save the world.
PenguinSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 08:01:01 UTC
Stop messing up our beautiful coast line. Us mere mortals always have no public space left because of all the commercial developments!
Johnny PestanaSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 07:59:10 UTC
Please leave this wonderful space and view unspoilt
    D MatonickiSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 07:58:06 UTC
This goes to all of the greedy developers, corrupt city officials and the likes.

Haven't you made enough money already?
One fact of life is that you cant take it with you, so why not stop now and invest in making the promenade more alive, by making shore it stays public, clean and safe.
Jenni PestanaSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 07:58:02 UTC
I love Sea Point and would hate to see it spoilt - please stop these plans
KristinSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 07:54:47 UTC
Please don't do this, not another location ruined by yet another building!
Latisha DuarteSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 07:51:01 UTC
The thought of this dishusts and saddens me, have these people no appreciation of nature?
Doreen & Arthur HaddSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 07:39:29 UTC
We grew up in Sea Point and have many, many happy memories of the Sea Point Pavilions and surrounding beaches, especially "broken baths", We would hate to see this wonderful landmark spoiled.

It's such a lovely place to walk and relax. Please don't mess it up.
Nadia RosenthalSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 07:05:33 UTC
It will be devastating for all if that area becomes developed. We don't need more commercial centres, what we need is to maintain our connections to nature, and this is one that everybody uses and loves.
CorinaSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 06:29:09 UTC
It would be a disaster and huge mistake to take the public space away along the promenade. Me personally go there often to run or for walks. It is used by 1000s of people every day. To clean up the pavements / railings should be the only "delevopments" / improvements allowed. Don't take more space away from families to go for a stroll with their kids!
Peter SeidelSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 05:35:56 UTC
As someone who grew up in Cape Town, and professional urban designer practicing world-wide, I deplore the idea of sacrificing one of the city's most valuable assets.
ashleigh mcleanSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 05:34:23 UTC
This is outrageous .yet another example of corporate development and private interests steam rolling over public and community interests. What’s more these so called developers in erecting their generic "international'' shopping complexes and loft style apartments are destroying what makes our city firstly a pleasure for its residents and secondly an attractive prospect for tourists and investors alike . Both of which will continue to provide revenue long after a 2010 shopping spree.

I walk on the prominade a minimum of twice a week summer and winter. The space belongs to the public ratepayers. Dont let greed kill the beauty of capetown. Lets not kill the goose for the golden egg.
nickSigned on: Tue 22 Jan 2008 00:46:59 UTC
Take away the promenade and it's public space and you take away the happiness of thousands!

I can't believe it's even up for debate!! Any excuse to make money and profit from something beautiful! All those involved in the planning of the desecration of this area have no heart! They should be ashamed!

Julian BubSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 23:53:15 UTC
I believe that the development, in particular on the Cape Town side of the pavilion should not be allowed. It will detract from what is currently a unique public area used by all Capetonians.

NO MORE CONCRETE NO MORE CONSTRUCTION !
Diana SochenSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 23:14:45 UTC
I believe in development as long as the area will not be affected and that it will be aesthetically acceptable

Former resident of Sea Point, still a regular visitor. Developing the seafront will destroy the whole character of Sea Point and lose a vauluable community space. Don't!

Helen PaiceSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:50:30 UTC
It would be a tragedy to lose this beautiful beach front. There are so many people around here living in flats with no gardens and these are the only outdoor areas they and their children have to enjoy. Don't do it!
Yvonne KedzierskiSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:50:11 UTC
No development on the sea side of Beach Road should ever be allowed. Let the residents and visitors enjoy the promenade. As it is today, so it should stay.
Alten HulmeSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:38:42 UTC
I want the development to have a much smaller scale
Heather CoullSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:36:30 UTC
I grew up on the Atlantic Coast and treasure the memories. Our children should be able to have those too - not a concrete jungle. All big cities preserve the area around their water features for the public, Toronto, New York (Battey?Central Park), Sydney - why must we get second best?
Darron GubermanSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:35:54 UTC
Some of my tax money goes to the upkeep of public spaces. If you allow development, will you return my tax money? If not, leave the public spaces as is!
bella llllllllllllllSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:17:44 UTC
please do not let this happen
Stuart HillSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:11:11 UTC
Stop the rezoning and leave the promenade as it is!
Josie HillSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:09:59 UTC
Please DO NOT allow this rezoning! It is a gorgeous public space and we cannot risk ANY precendent. It took us years to recover from the last commercial building that went up on the promenade - please dont do that to us again.
Ted PreciadoSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 21:04:44 UTC
Anything to stop more and more development without thought of the environment and/or the local people who are affected most.

Peter KoeppenSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 20:53:46 UTC
Keep the Sea Point Pavilion and adjacent promenade public space. The strand development was a failure and a sea point development will be equally cursed.
Andre BottgerSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 20:49:40 UTC
Keep the prom as it is!
Christina GubermanSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 20:48:25 UTC
The is a reminder to the city counsil and any people in authority acting on behalf of the public, that rezoning public space, especially in Sea Point is absolutly not in the best interest of the Public at large but only in the interest of developers and corporate chains. Please do not allow the planned rezoning to take place at any cost what so ever.

Seapoint prommenade should definately stay a public space - a city gets its flavour by its public spaces and this city belongs to us and not to the investors!!!!!!
Sean PayneSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 19:44:43 UTC
Leave the promenade as is, we already have the stadium, what will be left if we let go of the pool, the grass on the beach front will be next to some money whore.
