I fully object to any development taking place at the Sea Point Pavillion. My children have been going there since 2002,and is a well known recreational environment for family gatherings.
Andries du ToitSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 18:50:58 UTC
The Seapoint seafront is a public resource that should be open to all Cape Town's people. At the moment it is a democratic, open space where people of all walks can come together. The open vista to the sea, which will be obscured by the proposed development, is a major asset. We don't need another mall!

As a born and bred Capetonian, I'm horrified by the proposal. Everytime I look the reasons to come back to South Africa are being destroyed.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I cannot believe that anyone would want to do this. It seems that nothing is sacred at all anymore.

The Seapoint promenade is a sacred place for locals and tourists to enjoy the beauty of our beachfront by walking their dogs, jogging, power walking, pushing their baby buggies or just sitting quietly on the benches. Taking that away from us would be an absolute shame!

You know why Muizenberg and the cape is the most favourable area to live? cause it it authentic and grown naturally. Some developments are just enough. keep the city natural please!

we have enough malls already. go build somewhere else

there should be no development allowed of the areas around the Sea Point Pavillion. Not now and not at any future time.

It would be a total disaster if you would build a shopping mall etc. on the beach promenade. Daily we go there for a walk and enjoy the open space very much. we disapprove the rezoning stongly.
    A CibrarioSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 17:08:16 UTC
Our public area should not be taken away from us for the sole purpose of enriching someone from the private sector. Other areas are in more need of development and nature should be cherished. Would you build a hotel in a rainforest, just because it is beautiful there? The mere fact that it is unspoilt, makes it beautiful - as it is also in this case. Leave the promanade alone for residents and holiday makers alike, to continue enjoying as they have been...
Lorinda van NiekerkSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 16:48:43 UTC
We run on the promenade every morning, enjoying the sea and the fresh air. That is how it should stay!!!
Estelle van NiekerkSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 16:43:33 UTC
It would be a shame if this area would be rezoned. I use it almost everyday to jog, walk or just escape from city hustle and bustle.

My daily morning walks at the promenade are part of my life in Cape Town. I don't want to miss that!
Elmari SwartSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 16:06:05 UTC
We use it to ESCAPE from the crowded shopping malls, hotels and other developments. Save our promenade!!!
Richard BryantSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 16:01:51 UTC
As a principle I am not against development. However, it is a very dangerous prescident to allow development of existing public open space, particularly one which has a long history of being enjoyed by all walks of life.

I strongly object to this, yet another, monstrous afront to the loss of our public open space. We do NOT WANT more shops, more hotels and more of this abuse!
Maré NorvalSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 15:34:03 UTC
I think it is the most horrible idea ! There are so many other areas where shopping centres can be erected ! Keep out beautiful beach area as is. It is after all a pleasant place for all !

People come to the Promenade to ESCAPE from the hussle and bussle of shopping malls, hotels and other developments!

As someone who grew up in Cape Town and visited Seapoint with my family as a kid I feel it should be preserved for future generation to enjoy. I have many fond memories of days spent there as I am sure a great number of other people also have.
Pete EthelstonSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 15:30:44 UTC
My family walk this promenade daily and given that we lift in an apartment this green belt is the only garden that they have. We love the way it is shared with all races and is one of the few places in the areas where all cultures really mix.
Ian WoodiwissSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 15:28:03 UTC
I'm appalled to hear that this tasteless subject has again reared it's head, and find the governmental bodies to be lax in supporting public opinion, a position that they were voted-in to do. Is all politics about money alone?
Beverley CooperSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 15:27:48 UTC
I think it is outrageous to allow development along the one uninterrupted promenade available to the public.
Visitors have said that it is reminiscent of the beautiful promenade in Nice which has never been threatened by developers as the French will not stand for it.

Abe van der WesthuysSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 15:21:26 UTC
I frequent the sea point pool and think that it would be a shame to loose such a landmark to yet another devolpment in the allready over developed beach front
JacquesSigned on: Mon 21 Jan 2008 15:21:12 UTC
These devlopments should NOT be allowed. These areas should be kept as they are. Do NOT succumb to undue presure and financial gain
