The promenade has lots of childhood memories for me. I'd hate for its legacy to be discontinued.

I am concerned about the lack of transparency and apprent reversal of decisions in this process. We have seen too many instances of public office decisionmaking that have been influenced by vested interests! Setting a precedent for the rezoning of public open space will be detrimental to the quality of life of the SA public in the longer run.

I regularly use the promenade for jogging and walking and would be very upset not be able to access the full length of it without trawling through a shopping mall!

please stay away from our heritage - my children should have the joy of enjoying the beautiful space - they can go to tygervalley if they want to go to another mall

i ve lived in cape town for 3 years and sea point has that riviera feel to it,and that this is what makes it so attractive to tourists or anyone really...if anything that has charactere and history is removed, this country won t have any interest and people will go else where.
adrienne katzSigned on: Sun 20 Jan 2008 23:05:56 UTC
The loss of shared communal space will be felt by a wide range of people whereas the development will block the view and serve only those who can afford it. In turn it will become a precedent paving the way for high rise developments on the beachfront.
Enzo RaffaSigned on: Sun 20 Jan 2008 22:12:26 UTC
I go to Cape Town a couple times a year and one place that I regard as a Breath of fresh air, is the Promenade in Sea-Point.
    Save the Promenade.

    I TOTALLY support this initiative.
High Capitalism will destroy the world. One day we will learn that we cannot eat money and that as much wilderness as we possibly can have will be the thing that makes us the richest people in the world!
Gray RobertsonSigned on: Sun 20 Jan 2008 21:29:05 UTC
Public, not private, facilities and spaces are made by a culture and make a culture.

In a country as divided and diverse as ours, it is critical we do not sell off these spaces that enable our cultures to grow and evolve.

The Seafront is not the governments to give away to capitalists! It belongs to the people, and as one of those people I refuse to allow the seafront to be developed!

We use the promenade after work in the evenings for walking. It's great to see so many different people using this open space. One of the last in our city that doesn't cost you anything.

Not acceptable to sell off Public land and deny the community access to these areas.

I am against any selling off of Public land to developers who have zero concern for the area, the community other than to line their own pockets in a major way.

The open public space is used by young and old each weekend and is a valuable asset to the whole of Cape Town - it is our Central Park. On this rocky coastline there is nowhere else for people to swim and the pool is a necessity for residents who wish to swim - as well as all the non-residents who make use of it.

This ia a facility much used by all the people of Cape Town and a well-established recreation- focus for visitors to this city.

Thismuch used and loved facility for all the people of Cape Town should be protected and preserved. We do not need a shopping complex on the sea front.
Colleen FehlmannSigned on: Sun 20 Jan 2008 18:33:23 UTC
Unbelievable!!! Arent there enough shops, shopping-centers, restaurants and built up areas in Cape Town? How can anyone even CONTEMPLATE ruining that glorious strip of green with breathtaking views of the beach, sea and horizon??
Pam ChristieSigned on: Sun 20 Jan 2008 18:32:26 UTC
Please leave this glorious space open to all. It\'s part of our history, and for many people it\'s the most accessible sea front available.
It\'s to be treasured as it is - an open space that is well used by people of all sorts, dogs, birds, and many visitors.

Cape Town is THE most beautiful city in the world and so many public enjoyment \"spaces\" have become inaccessible. The Sea Point Seafront is a part of every Capetonians life and thus fondest memories and should be preserved for future generations to enjoy. The \"greed factor\" has become very destructive.
