Asides from my personal interest in keeping my sea view from my Beach Road apartment, I take vicarious enjoyment in the appreciation of this promenade by such diverse pleasure seekers.

Although we don\'t live near Sea Point, we often take our small children out there, and I would love to keep on doing so in future.

    NO DEVELOPMENT, PLEASE!

The extensive Sea Point promenade is one of Cape Town\'s key assets - for locals and tourists alike - and should remain accessible to all. Only a tiny fraction of people are likely to benefit from the proposed buildings, which the majority of us do not want there. Keep up the good work, SEAFA!

Leave our open public spaces alone

A development the likes of what seems to be in the table is really needed closer to the sea on the Khayelitsha / Mitchells Plain side, where it would do a lot to create an attraction in an area that has incredible potential and needs to be reimagined. On Track probably is Without Imagination. Let\'s leave the Promenade alone.

Disgusting even to talk about it.
If Mrs. Essop would live at the Promenade, she would N O T allow it.

Please don\'t develop this site - soon Cape Town will no longer have any extraordinary places for ordinary people to enjoy.
Let\'s preserve community spaces and stop worshipping the money God.

About this proposed development I\'m afraid my comments are unprintable

Absolutely Not. Im in full support of keeping the area public! The V&A provides more than enough shopping facility!
Daniel TheronSigned on: Sat 19 Jan 2008 15:02:22 UTC
This space is best utilized for outdoors public recreation than for just another indoors commercial complex. The way it is now adds to the unique and positive atmosphere for all to enjoy.

The ocean side of Beach Road, Sea Point should remain uncommercial.

my family and I use the seafront every week. It is a part of our daily lives, always has been and SHOULD always remain so!

I support the petition to stop development on the promenade, and keep open spaces for public use.

The city\'s open space and access to it keeps the Mother City\'s citizens the coolest and sanest in South Africa.
Ruth solomonSigned on: Sat 19 Jan 2008 13:29:58 UTC
Please leave this space public, for the people.
Andreas SchaalSigned on: Sat 19 Jan 2008 13:29:24 UTC
We go jogging there with our dogs quite regularly and it is always such a cool vibe. This is a place for ALL and all feel at peace there. It would be a utter disaster and big loss for our city, should this construction go through.
Emmylou RabeSigned on: Sat 19 Jan 2008 13:04:27 UTC
This part of our seafront is truly one of the public spaces in South Africa that is used by all. There are so few, let us fight hard to at least keep those that are already being used, and used extensively! We need to keep spaces that everyone can use... privatisation does exaclty the opposite... back to the best for a few privileged. Seafront for ALL.. it is already, lets keep it that way!

SHOCKING to even consider allowing commercial creep into an all too rare green space belonging to the public

Under no circumstances should this development be allowed. I have been a very supportive member of the DA Council in Cape Town since Helen Zille became the DA leader. Nevertheless, I feel so strongly about this issue, that if this development is allowed to happen I will never again vote for the DA.

Big Bay is a disgraceful ruinous, uncaring, greedy ruination of our western cape coastline!! This one will be the next. Being nearer the city centre may make it even more so.

Without a public space you can not harness and witness the free and organic socialising between residents of a suburb. The nature of Seapoint living is predominantly living in high density developments. Where do you go to stretch your legs and have a breath of fresh air if not in public spaces? In another shopping complex? NO ! Definitely NOT ! We all need a space where you can go for a walk or meet up with someone (for free !!) without having to buy a coffee because you feel guilty of standing outside someone\'s cafe or even worst, shopfront. This is OUR space ! All of ours !! Rather take a leaf from the European way of doing things than the American way with their shopping malls. It\'s over. The time for that approach is long over. There is a different socialising culture taking place in the world and if we lose this promenade it will be missing the boat all together. Locals DO NOT need additioanl shopping space (at this location) and the visitors certainly DO NOT need this shopping space so you have to question who stand to gain from this development. The soul of this community?, the visitors that come from all over the world to walk around and witness the sights and sounds of Cape Town? No, none of them. People with selfish and short sighted agendas stand to gain from this. The long term effects from keeping this a public space will be far greater than this short term approach of cashing in. That is ofcourse if the hart of this comminity is considered. This space is not functioning at it\'s full potential yet, and you should rather look at ways of making it more accessible for live performers to entertain or allowing space for a small market on certian days of the week. Be creative and responsible, not greedy and shortsighted. You will be held accountable !
