We all know what happened to the Durban beach front when the Marine Parade was spoilt due to the space between Marine Parade and the ocean. Sea Point can go the same way as Durban beachfront if this is not stopped.

    this must not happen

Whereas I can understand the rapacious greed of the developers, I fail to understand the wisdom of the proposed development.

Many countries have proven how shortsighted it has been to overdevelop beachfront areas into ugly flats and highrise developments.

The only way to maintain ongoing interest in the beachfront areas is to keep it to what makes it so appealing to all visitors and that is the accessibility to all people and not just a select few. Wake up! We have more than enough shopping malls, kindly leave an open area for all the people to enjoy, including all the foreign visitors who come here for precisely this kind of open air beachfront and not some Tuscan or glass and steel nightmared experience which they can get in any overdeveloped city in the world.

There are times when development isn\'t a good thing, and this is definately one of them.

Julie CranstonSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 15:09:50 UTC
Too many public areas are being
developed, obviously the developers and others are making pots of money and that is their only interest, they don\'t give a hoot about our beautiful country

Dylan CoetzeeSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 15:08:46 UTC
Enough is enough. At which point will this all come to a head. At which point will the greedy land developers and money grubbers realise that even they will have no beautiful and open places to enjoy the millions that they are making from these deals.
Is the idea to let our children play on the rooftops of these and other buildings so that they can momentarily enjoy the sensation of open space. Where and when does it stop? The \"Golden Arch\", Nike signature \"TICK\" and Audi \"Cricles\" fighting for supremecy on Table Mountain?
We are sick of this! Please stop it for us, or let us know how we can help!
And not just money, our minds and muscle are behind any actions that are trying to better this beautiful country before it is completely ruined.

    No Developement to take place!
The only reason they want to develope this site is to make MORE money. The developers do not stay there, nor do they use this site so what do they care. MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING!

    We don\'t need another mall.
We don\'t need yet another building with match-box sized flats at ridiculous prices.
    Leave these properties as is.
Miranda KeenanSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 15:00:35 UTC
Hands off the beach front. Leave it as a place to be enjoyed by all.
Matthew StubbsSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 15:00:18 UTC
property developers(money grabbers) have already ruined much of South africa\'s beautiful coast line for their own finacial gains. Enough is enough already. How about they finance the housing of the homeless of our country.
Kirstin OdonovanSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 14:59:59 UTC
This is ridiculous and i dont support this development at all.
Craig NewtonSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 14:59:08 UTC
Seapoint is one of the most beautiful areas in Cape Town, and heavy development would definately make an impact on the environment, as well as the quality of life for the people currently staying there. Go develop somewhere else. Seapoint main road is already as busy as it can get and traffic is a nightmare, dont make things worse. I am sure there is a law to the minimum amount of recreational and conservation space in an area. This government needs to do something about it, since it doesn\'t seem they can do anything else.
cherilyn barbourSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 14:58:07 UTC
being an ex cape tonian and I am horrified that you would want to build on possibly one of the nicsest places in the world, please do not turn beautiful cape town and the sea front into a concrete jungle, you have the waterfront just down the road, can\'t you build this else where

All there is to do in Joburg is go shopping. When we go on holiday to CT we want to \"see\" the sea, walk on the beaches and appreciate a totally different lifestyle and beautiful scenery. Please don\'t spoil the promenade. We might as well stay in Joburg as there will be no necessity to go to the \"beautiful\" Cape Town which will no longer be beautiful!
Karen ErvensSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 14:31:23 UTC

We have too few public open spaces esp where we can all appreciate the sea. Don\'t block us off from it.

public space to remain public space in all areas
Kirby GordonSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 14:26:29 UTC
The seafront needs to be maintained as a public area for all. These spaces are essential to community development and to our groth as a nation which is still learning to integrate. Cape Town is particularly behind in this reagard and that space can help create change.
francoise CarterSigned on: Fri 18 Jan 2008 14:24:33 UTC

I think it is sad that as a democratic society we have no leg to stand on. I strongly oppose this idea of utilising the space for private gain. it is one of the few spaces one can frequent at no charge.
Lets stand together and fight this one.
